How To Keep Yourself Motivated To Train In The Cold

Cynergi Health & Fitness | Motivation to train in the cold

Let’s face it – working out during the winter is not the same. At times, you feel like ditching the gym because it was cold out and you didn’t feel like going out. So, what can you do to feel motivated to train in the cold? Here’s 10 simple tasks to stay motivated!

1. Warm up inside

Before putting on your cold-weather layers and heading out for a workout, do some stretches  or jumping jacks to get the blood flowing to your muscles and joints as well as reduce your chance of injury.

2. Go on a workout date

Meeting up with someone for a session will make your workout way more fun!

3. Try a new workout

To stave off boredom, try out a different workout every week. Find a fitness class that sounds fun and try incorporating it into your workout once a week as a special treat to look forward to. (

4. Think of your wallet

Don’t let those classes you signed up for go to waste. You’ll feel more motivated to go for your class instead of ditching.

5. Keep a daily journal

Keep a personal log of your daily workouts in a notebook to keep track of your progress. Flip through the book to remind yourself why you should get to the gym.

6. Post on social media

We love to pose in front of the gym’s mirror and take a classic photo. Showing your followers and friends you’re going to exercise keeps you accountable in a very public way. Getting support from family and friends is key to maintaining an exercise regimen.

7. Buy new gear

Buying new workout sneakers and gym clothes around this time of year makes you feel good in your skin. Something about new swag makes getting out the door and hitting the gym a lot easier.

8. Make a Spring fitness goal

Spend your winter training for the first half marathon or sprint triathlon. Whatever your
fitness goal, sometimes an impending deadline is just the motivation you need to get going.

9. Invest in home gym equipment

If you really can’t bear the cold, have some simple workout gear available at home.

10. Treat yourself

Did you conquer the cold? Go ahead and treat yourself. Take a big thermos filled with a warm drink to your workout or buy a chocolatey-fudge protein bar!
