The Christmas and New Year’s holidays meant glorious food, festive sweets… and alcohol. You might have overdone yourself during the holidays, but that’s ok! The festive season is a good break from regular routine so enjoying food is good – but only once in a while! It may be tough to get back on track after Christmas, BUT, here’s a few tips:
1. Don’t Continue to Indulge
Ok, so you had your little break and let yourself eat sugary or fatty foods – but now’s the time to get back to routine. Getting back on track as quickly as you can after the holidays is important because the more you continue to indulge, the harder it will be to get back into routine.
2. Set Realistic Goals
You might’ve gained a few kilos (which is normal and completely fine!), so, if you want to get back into shape, you need to do so gradually. If you push too hard and set up goals that you can’t reach, you’ll be just setting yourself up for disappointment.
3. Train Regularly!
Hit the gym – especially ours in St. Julian’s! Whether you’re into working out on your own or with a personal trainer, ease into your routine again. You can even spice things up with a spin class or a HIIT workout. The more you train, the more you’ll ease into routine again.
But don’t pressure yourself – train for the right reasons. If training makes you feel anxious, then re-assess why you’re visiting the gym and what your aims are.
4. Maintain a Balanced Diet
Fill up each meal with essential nutrients, include vegetables and aim to eat healthy fats like those found in avocado or nuts. Plan your meals and stay on top.
Skipping meals won’t help you to lose weight the healthy way – you’ll just end up eating very little. Avoid staying hungry and eat regularly to have the max energy for your training.
Plus, your water intake was probably low while you were out drinking alcohol for so many parties. This means you might be a little dehydrated. So, drink up – slow and easy!
5. Don’t Get Discouraged
You might not be seeing immediate results. Your glutes might be aching. And your breaths might be heavier. BUT, progress takes time. The start is always the hardest until it’s not so hard anymore. Investing into training with a personal trainer might also help you stay motivated and keep up the good work!
