How will COVID-19 affect me?

If you have a fixed-term (pre-paid) membership which is currently active, we will extend your membership by the equivalent number of days you will lose during the closure period. In practice, this means that if your fixed-term membership is still active after the closure period, it will be extended by the equivalent number of days for which the club was closed (ie if the closure period is for fourteen days, your membership will be extended by fourteen days). If your membership is due to expire during the closure period, it will be extended by the number of days remaining on the membership, commencing when the club re-opens (ie if your membership is due to expire on 20th March, once the club re-opens you will be able to make use of the club for three days – the equivalent of the 18th, 19th, and 20th March).

If you have a continuous membership (paid by monthly direct debit) which is currently active, we will reduce your next membership payment in proportion to the number of days you will lose during the closure period. In practice, this means that if the closure persists until the end of March only, your April membership payment will be reduced by around 45%. If the closure period extends into April, we will not attempt to debit your bank account at the beginning of April; instead we will freeze your membership free-of-charge for the month of April. Should the club re-open during the month of April, members wishing to unfreeze their membership may do so, and will be required to pay a pro-rated membership fee for the remainder of the month. Members who do not wish to unfreeze their membership will not be required to do so, although their membership will automatically restart on 1st May.

In the event that the closure period extends beyond April, the same process as for April will apply for following months until the club is permitted to re-open.

Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the club. The best way to do this is via our Facebook page which will be monitored throughout the closure period. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected] and we will aim to respond to you within four working days.

We will, of course, be in touch again by email to keep you informed of any new developments, and of course to advise you when the club will be ready to re-open.

In the meantime, we encourage all members to stay up-to-date with the very latest government information by visiting the dedicated website: www.covid19malta.info, and to comply with all directives from the authorities to reduce the transmission of the virus.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the club as soon as it is safe and practical.  Stay healthy!

Best regards,
Jim Harvey
