The History of World Tennis Day
The sport originally started off as a handball game known as “jeu de paume” in French which translates to “game of the palm”.
Louis X of France was one of the major pioneers of the sport. In the 13th century, the king became the first person to build indoor tennis courts in a modern style. This new sport spread across royal palaces all over Europe soon enough. With the introduction of rackets, the game, later on, was named ‘tennis’ in the 16th century.
Later on in 1913, the International Lawn Tennis Federation was established as the governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis and beach tennis too!
Tennis has now turned into one of the most popular sports in the world.
