With the weather getting warmer, we’re all thinking the same thing – swimming workouts. Malta and Gozo are surrounded by beaches and we’re so fortunate to have the sea so accessible to us (and so clean too!).
One of the best workouts for the body is swimming – most people don’t realise that. Swimming is amazing because you can move your entire body against the resistance of the water.
So, you might think swimming is just something to do during the hot summer days, but really, there are a few reasons why swimming is a good all-around activity for the body.
1. Keeps Your Heart Rate Up
The more movement you do, the less stress you’ll have. By building endurance, you’ll be able to release stress from your body while building endurance. Cardiovascular fitness is highly important to maintain as you get older and our bodies start to slow down.
2. Building Up Your Breath
Muscle strength isn’t the only thing that swimming is great at building – you’ll also get to build up your breath! You need healthy lungs, of course, and swimming is an easier way to keep your stamina up.
3. Improving Your Coordination
Swimming also really helps with your body coordination, especially with balance and posture. On top of that, you get to improve your flexibility, while providing good low-impact therapy for some injuries and conditions.
4. A Relaxing Form of Exercise
The water feels right the second you dip into it. It has a natural way of calming the body. Swimming can help your mind relax and be more present. So, you’re still exercising but at the same time, you’re also relaxing.
Bonus – It’s always a pleasant way to cool down on a hot day!
